Welcome
I am Oladiipo Ajiboye, a Professor of Linguistics and Yorùbá Language in the Department of
Linguistics,
African and Asian Studies at the University of Lagos. My academic passion lies in exploring
the richness
of language, particularly Yorùbá, and culture, with a focus on how linguistic structures
reveal both
shared human cognition and cultural diversity.
I hold a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of British Columbia, Canada. My
research spans key
areas such as syntax, semantics, morphology, phonology, and dialectal variation within Yorùbá
language and the cross-linguistic implications.
I am especially interested in how linguistic theory helps understand the interfaces between
the domains of phonology, syntax ans semantics.
Beyond theoretical inquiry, my work also engages with language and society, particularly in
the areas of
translation and interpreting between English and Yorùbá, orthography development, and
pedagogy.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of serving in various leadership roles, mentoring
students, and
contributing to their academic development across institutions where I have taught, especially at
the
University of Lagos. Through teaching, research, and public engagement, I strive to bridge
the gap
between theoretical insights and the everyday experiences of language users.
This website reflects my academic journey and my ongoing commitment to advancing linguistic
knowledge.
I invite you to explore my research interest, publications, and academic activities, and I warmly
welcome
collaborations with scholars and students in my discipline and across disciplines who share a
passion for
understanding language.
